[nggallery id=23 template=galleryview]Martin Munckasi (born Hungary 1896, died New York 1963) was a self-taught photographer who began his career in a sports paper in Budapest. In 1927, he started working for the Berlin-based Ulistein publishers where he met Lazio Monoll-Naqy whom he would later work with in works such as Koralle, Uhu and Die Dame. In 1933 he emigrated to the U.S.A. where he found work as a fashion photographer at Harper´s Bazaar. In 1936, he started regularly contributing to Life magazine. Having started his career as a sports journalist, he liked to portray his models and athletes in motion. His action photography is notable for its spontaneity and unconventional frame angles which look upon models and characters from seemingly impossible angles. Many legendary figures such as Katherine Hepburn, Leslie Howard, Fred Astaire and Marlene Dietrich have posed before his camera. This exhibition (Vida de un fotógrafo) presents 51 original photographs which span all the different stages in Munckasi´s career; from his work as a sports photographer to his portraits of Catherine Hepburn or Fred Astaire among others.
